Recite the Quran as Revealed Spiritual Connection Preserve Meaning Greater Reward Islamic Obligation Beautiful Recitation Memorise Faster Teach Others Protect Quran

8 core benefits of learning Quran with Tajweed

The Obligation Every Muslim Must Know
وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا

"And recite the Quran with measured recitation." — Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:4)

It Is Fard Ayn — An Individual Duty

Islamic scholars agree that reciting the Quran with correct Tajweed is obligatory for every Muslim. Incorrect pronunciation can change the meaning of Allah's words, which makes learning Tajweed a religious necessity, not simply an optional skill.

Multiply Your Rewards with Every Letter

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah receives a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied by ten." Reciting correctly — every letter from its correct point — means ten rewards per letter, per session, every day.

Master It Once — Benefit for a Lifetime

Unlike any other skill, Tajweed — once properly learned — serves you in every Salah, every Duaa, and every moment of recitation for the rest of your life. One investment of time becomes a permanent form of worship.

Essential Tajweed Rules Every Muslim Must Know

These are the foundational rules of Tajweed that every student covers in our curriculum — from the very first class to advanced recitation mastery.

1 Makharij Exit Points 2 Sifaat Characteristics 3 Noon Saakin & Tanween 4 Meem Saakin Rules 5 Qalqalah Echo Letters 6 Madd Elongation 7 Waqf & Ibtida Stops & Starts
إِخْفَاء
Ikhfaa — Concealment

When a noon saakin or tanween is followed by one of 15 letters, the sound is softened — neither fully pronounced nor fully merged. A gentle nasal sound is produced.

Example: مِن ثَمَرَةٍ
إِدْغَام
Idgham — Merging

The noon saakin or tanween merges into the following letter. With ghunnah (nasal sound) or without, depending on the letter that follows.

Example: مَن يَقُول
إِظْهَار
Izhar — Clear Pronunciation

When noon saakin or tanween is followed by a throat letter (ء ه ع غ ح خ), the noon is pronounced clearly without any merging or nasalisation.

Example: مَنْ أَمَنَ
قَلْقَلَة
Qalqalah — Echo

Five letters (ق ط ب ج د) produce a slight bouncing echo when they carry a sukoon. This prevents the letter from sounding flat or dead in recitation.

Example: يَطْعُم
غُنَّة
Ghunnah — Nasalisation

A nasal sound produced through the nose for a count of two beats. It appears with the letters Noon and Meem when they carry a shaddah.

Example: إِنَّ
مَدّ
Madd — Elongation

The three elongation letters (و ا ي) are extended for 2, 4, or 6 beats depending on what follows. Correct Madd timing is essential for proper rhythm.

Example: آمَنُوا

How to Choose the Best Tajweed Course for You

Not all Tajweed courses are equal. Before you enrol anywhere, here are the six criteria that distinguish an effective course from an average one.

🎓

Teacher Certification Matters Most

Always confirm the teacher holds a genuine Ijazah — a chain of authority tracing back to the Prophet ﷺ. Without it, there is no guarantee of correctness.

✅ Zaid Academy: All teachers hold Al-Azhar Ijazah
👤

1-on-1 Is Non-Negotiable for Tajweed

Tajweed requires real-time correction of your specific pronunciation. Group classes cannot provide this. Look for personalised 1-on-1 sessions only.

✅ Zaid Academy: All sessions are 1-on-1
🗺️

Clear Curriculum & Learning Path

A good course has a structured progression — from Qaida to Tajweed rules to full recitation — not random lessons. Ask to see the curriculum before enrolling.

✅ Zaid Academy: 5-stage structured path
🧕

Female Teacher Availability

For women, girls, and many Muslim families, a female teacher is a requirement. Not a preference — a necessity. Ensure the academy can provide this.

✅ Zaid Academy: Specialist female teachers available
🎁

Free Trial Before Any Commitment

You should be able to experience the teaching style and meet your teacher before paying anything. No reputable academy should refuse a genuine free trial.

Regular Progress Reporting

Especially for children, parents must be kept informed. A structured academy provides lesson reports, progress milestones, and a curriculum the family can follow.

Your Tajweed Questions — Answered
Is learning Quran with Tajweed obligatory for Muslims?
Yes. Scholars unanimously agree that reciting the Quran with correct Tajweed is obligatory (Fard Ayn) for every Muslim. Reciting without Tajweed is permissible during the learning process, but the goal is always correct recitation as the Prophet ﷺ received and taught it.
How long does it take to learn Tajweed online?
Most students achieve fluent Quran recitation with Tajweed in 12–18 months with 3 sessions per week. Children starting with Noorani Qaida often progress faster, while adults refining existing recitation may see clear results within 6–9 months. Consistency matters more than speed.
Can a complete beginner learn Tajweed online with no Arabic knowledge?
Absolutely. Our certified teachers begin with Arabic letter recognition through Noorani Qaida before progressing to full Tajweed rules. We have taught complete beginners of all ages — from 5-year-olds to adults in their 60s — with excellent results.
What is the difference between Tajweed and Tarteel?
Tajweed refers to the technical rules of correct pronunciation — Makharij, Sifaat, Madd, Ghunnah, and so on. Tarteel means reciting slowly and clearly, applying those rules with measured, deliberate pacing. Both are commanded in the Quran and required for beautiful, accurate recitation.
Do you offer female Quran teachers for women and girls?
Yes. Zaid Academy has specialist female Quran teachers (Qariyaat) with full Ijazah certification from Al-Azhar. Female students of any age can request a female teacher at any time. Privacy and Islamic sensitivity are central to how we teach.
What age can children start Tajweed classes?
Children as young as 4–5 can begin with Noorani Qaida foundations — learning letters, sounds, and simple vowel combinations in short, playful sessions. Formal Tajweed rules are introduced from age 7 onwards when concentration and phonemic awareness are stronger.
How many sessions per week does my child need to progress well?
We recommend a minimum of 3 sessions per week for steady progression. Children attending 5 sessions per week typically progress twice as fast. Even 2 sessions per week will show results — the key is consistency over time, not the number of sessions in a single week.
Can I switch teachers if I am not happy with the match?
Absolutely. Teacher-student compatibility is central to our model. If at any point you feel a different teacher would be a better fit — whether in teaching style, pace, or personality — we will arrange a new match at no extra cost. Your progress comes first.
